I feel like I am such a sucker sometimes, you know? I moved here because my family wanted me to be here and ever since I have been living here, my cost of living has just gone up and up. I used to only pay about $130 a month for my car insurance. Now I am paying around $270 a month. How come people honestly think that paying $250+ a month is cheap auto insurance? It just doesn’t make any sense to me at all.
Cheap auto insurance quotes in my opinion, are anything under $150 a month. The middle-ground of America is most likely to have this kind of pricing due to their population and the number of people who are on the roads. Places like Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and so on. All of those states have lower costing insurance than what I’m paying now in Florida. Heck, the amount I could have saved in the other states would have allowed me to take a vacation right here in Florida!
On the positive side though, there is no state income tax here so that is a very big incentive for me to earn more as an insurance broker. I have only been involved with this job for a few years but every day that goes by, I begin to like the job more and more. It isn’t nearly as nerve-wrecking as my old job was. I used to be a manager at a busy restaurant in the downtown area and I think I got grey hair from that place. The food business is the worst, trust me.
As for my brokering job, I find it to be pretty laid back. My clients are between the middle class and upper class demographics, so they are fairly pleasant to deal with. I have come to realize that dealing with the low class citizens is something I never want to do again. I experienced that for a short time while working as a broker in training. Not only were they rude, but they demanded that I find them the cheapest auto insurance policies around. Oh, it was a big nightmare, believe me. I am much happier dealing with people who are realistic about their no fault insurance plans. They don’t expect me to work miracles either, which is a nice change.
When I was learning to become a broker, I was paired up with this guy from the claims department. He had a lot of experience with my side of things because he used to work as a broker himself. He got tired of having to talk with people face to face, so he decided that talking over the phone was more his style. He also enjoyed the list of pre-recorded things to say.
Anyways, he taught me what I needed to know all within a week’s time-span. I was really impressed that he seemed so knowledgeable on the subject. You would never know it by looking at him. He was the kind of person you would expect to see at a rock concert, not working as an insurance customer service representative. It was actually kind of shocking when the firm first told me that I would be working with him, or rather learning from him.
I asked them if they surely hadn’t made a mistake and they laughed, saying “Nope. We know what you are thinking and you’ll be pleasantly surprised…”. I took their word for it and I was surprised. I have now become the leading no fault insurance broker in the southern part of Florida, all thanks to my mentor.
