Does Fat Loss Surgery Have a Real Place in Helping Fight Obesity?
I am a personal trainer and I really don’t enjoy saying this, but I actually think it does. You have to understand my goal is to make people healthier. If weight loss surgery can get them motivated to become healthy and feel better about themselves, then it’s not really a bad thing at all. As long as the technology is safe which is appears to be getting better all the time.
But there is a catch to using this surgery. It does not make you skinny forever. You still need to help your body stay lean, stay strong, and you still need to eat right. Your body becomes what you give it, that is not just a saying. It’s true. So if you don’t move it and you feed it junk, it will become slow, weak, lifeless and you’ll suffer because of that. This will be the case even after you have a fat loss surgery.
So weight training for women and other forms of fat loss workouts are vital to your body after the fact. You need to build strength because strength means a higher metabolism which means you’ll have your body control it’s own fat stores. You also need to eat better so you don’t get fat again.
I do think that fat loss surgery is a good thing and I do see a day when it will be step one for many people to getting the body and lifestyle they want. But it’s only the beginning, it’s step one of a lifelong journey. The rest of the journey will be the same thing you need to learn now and there is will never be an easy way to get around that. Unless one day people can replace their limbs with mechanical limbs that never gain fat or anything like that. But I don’t ever see that happening.
